Making a Career in Public Service – Three Former Top Civil Servants Tell You How They Did It

With the opportunity to work in multiple levels across a variety of portfolios, the civil service offers dynamic and interesting careers.

Please join the European Studies Students’ Association on Friday, March 2nd at 9:30 am in the History Department Boardroom, 2nd Floor Bridge at Sidney Smith, for an enlightening and engaging panel discussion with three former civil servants sharing the paths they took to the top of the civil service.

Georgina Steinsky-Schwartz, a former federal Deputy Minister of Supply and Services will chair this panel and facilitate discussion between the students and speakers. The three speakers who will be joining us are: Kathy Bouey, who has experience both at the provincial and federal levels and in her last position was Secretary of the Management Board in the Government of Ontario; Ian Clark, current faculty member of the School of Public Policy at the University of Toronto and a former Deputy Minister across a broad range of portfolios in the federal government; and Jay Kaufman, a former Ontario Deputy Minister of Finance, with experience at senior levels in other provincial governments.

The event will start with an informal breakfast at 9:30, followed by a panel discussion where the speakers will relate their professional experiences. Most of the time will be allocated to open discussion so that the audience can dialogue with the panelists.

We hope that you will be able to join us for this event, and if you have any questions, please contact us at: essa@utoronto.ca
